Now from here, we will dive deep into the topic of Image Optimization,

SEO Images: How to Make Blog Images Search Engine Friendly

At this point, I assume, you are ready to insert images in your blog post. Follow this Step-by-Step Guide to make your Blog Images SEO Friendly.

  1. Select the Right File Name for Image

When you create a custom image or download the free image, give a best suitable name before saving the image. Since you are uploading the same, a meaningful file name will help a lot to search engine.

Give the name that you want the image to rank for.

Many Bloggers select the file name that almost doesn’t make any sense. Rename the image with a keyword-rich name so the search engine will rank that image higher in SERP.

For Example, if you are writing an article on How to Find Best Web Hosting Sites, then the name of the image should be as like this “Best-Web-Hosting-Sites.jpg” or maybe “Cheap-Web-Hosting-Sites.jpg”.

It will be easily understood by the search engine as well as your reader.

Here is the example of right file name,

  1. Wrong File Name – “ABCD1234.jpg”
  2. Okay File Name – “bestwebhostingsites.jpg”
  3. Perfect File Name – “Best-Web-Hosting-Sites.jpg”

So, this is the first step, you must always care about.

  1. Resize the Image

The Image you decided to insert in a blog post may be larger than your content area width or may be small.

The size of an image is your choice but you must know larger images took more time to load hence bounce rate will increase accordingly. You should always resize the image before uploading.

I am using a very simple site to resize the image; SmallJPG.com At SmallJPG.com you can resize pictures (JPG, GIF, and PNG) to any desired size.

After resizing the image will be displayed so you can save it to any location you want.

Maximum 9.5 MB image size can be resized with SmallJPG is the only drawback; otherwise, this site is best. The best image size I think is 600×300 Px, 700×350 Px, 800×400 Px.

Always consider Page Loading Speed before uploading images.

  1. Compress the Image

When you use Stock Images or Royalty Free Images, they are big in file size. It adds tremendous pressure on your server.

If you hold an account with the best web hosting service provider as like MilesWeb they will take due care of page load speed. An Image Compression is always better before uploading the picture.

Here I wish to discuss one more topic. Which Image Format we should use? JPEG or PNG?  JPEGs are for photographs and realistic images. PNGs are for line art, text-heavy images, and images with few colors.

So, what is your choice, Please Comment?

PNG Compression or JPEG Compression can easily do with TinyPNG. Use TinyPNG to shrink images for your blog post or website, It will use less bandwidth and load faster.

Even after image compression, it won’t affect the image quality much. The image will still look good.

  1. ALT Text

As mention earlier, Search Engine Bot can’t read your images as like text. To resolve this issue, you have to tell crawler, what this image is all about through ALT Text.

Search Engine will determine the best image to display in a result for a particular search query through ALT Text. So, by adding an ALT text in the images, you will get higher image search ranking and tons of organic traffic.

So, use a proper image related to the topic of your article and add keywords in the ALT text.

How to Add ALT Text to an Image so the Simple Image converts in SEO Images?

When you click on “Add Media Button” to upload the image, same time you can add ALT Text. Check the image below for better understanding,

Along with Alt Text, give a Proper Title to the image. It will be the added advantage for a crawler. Here I don’t recommend adding Description of an image because Alt Text is more than sufficient for Search Engine Crawler.

Avoid Hyperlink in SEO Images

Unless you want to share the link to the full-size image, I don’t recommend keeping the hyperlinks in the image. Hyperlink passes the link juice to non-important pages.

If reader accidentally clicks on the image, they will be redirected to the image location and hence, they might lose the interest in the article. Click on “None” in Link to section while Uploading the Image. For better understanding, refer the image below,
